“If you want to see a thing well, reach out and touch it!”
That may seem a strange thing to say.But touching things can help you to see them better. Your eyes can tell you that a glass ball is round. But by holding it in your hands, you can feel how smooth and cool the ball is.You can feel how heavy the glass is.When you feel all these about the ball, you really see it.With your skin, you can feel better. For example, your fingers can tell the difference between two coins in your pocket. You can feel a little drop of water on the back of your hand, too.You can even feel sounds against your skin.Have you ever wanted to
know why some people like very loud music? They must like to feel the sounds of music.
All children soon learn what “Don’t touch!” means. They hear it often.Yet most of us keep on touching things as we grow up.In shops, we touch things we might buy:food, clothes. To see something well, we have to touch it.The bottoms of our feet can feel things, too.You know this when you walk on warm sand, cool grass or a hard floor. All feel different under your feet.
There are ways of learning to see well by feeling. One way is to close your eyes and try to feel everything that is touching your skin.Feel the shoes on your feet, the clothes on your body, the air on your skin.At first, it is not easy to feel these things. You are too used to them!
Most museums are just for looking. But today some museums have some things to touch.Their signs say, “Do touch!” There you can feel everything on show.
If you want to see better, reach out and touch. Then you will really see! 28.By touching things .

D.you will learn how to reach out your hand
29.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage? A.Touching is helping us to see things better. B.Feeling things is a good way for us to learn. C.Our skins may help us to feel the sounds of music. D.We can’t feel the things on show in any museum. 30.Why do some museums have things to touch today? A.To people excited
B.To help visitors see better
C.To make the exhibits more beautiful D.To help people feel things
31.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage? A.To See Better—Feel C.Touching by Feeling
B.To See or to Feel D.Ways of Feeling
D
Do American children still learn handwriting in school? In the age of the keyboard, some people seem to think handwriting lessons are on the way out.90% of teachers say they are required to teach handwriting. But studies have yet to answer the question of how well they are teaching it.One study published this year found that about three out of every four teachers say they are not prepared to teach handwriting. Some teachers are teaching handwriting by providing instruction for 10 to 15 minutes a day, and then other teachers who basically teach it for 60 to 70 minutes a day—which really for handwriting is pretty much.
Many adults remember learning that way—by copying letters over and over again.Today’s thinking is that short periods of practice are better. Many experts also think handwriting should not be taught by itself.Instead, they day it should be used as a way to get students to express ideas. After all, that is why we write.
Handwriting involves two skills. One is legibility, which means forming the letters so they can be read. The other is fluency-writing without having to think about it.Fluency continues to develop up until high school.
But not everyone masters these skills.Teachers commonly report that about one-fourth of their kids have poor handwriting. Some people might think handwriting is not important any more because of computers and voice recognition programs.
But Steve Graham at Vanderbilt says word processing is rarely done in elementary school, especially in the early years.American children traditionally first learn to print, and then to write in cursive(手写体),which connects the letters. But guess what we learned from a spokeswoman for the College Board, which administers the SAT college admission test.More than 75 percent of students choose to print their essay on the test rather than write in cursive. 32.From Paragraph 1 we can learn .
A.teachers spend little time in teaching handwriting
B.teaching handwriting is a basic requirement in the teaching job C.most teachers prefer to teach handwriting
D.a keyboard has taken the place of the handwriting entirely
