Unit 3《Last Weekend》 By Yu Huan
Today I start from 5 aspects to explain the lesson, that are: analysis the test; explain the teaching and learning methods; talk about teaching tools and the reasons why I use them; explain the teaching procedures. At last I`ll leave some minutes to explain the layout of the homework and the design of the blackboard writing. Now first please let me explain the 5 aspects one by one
First: talk about the test: the important points of this unit is trying to help students to know how to express what they did in their past time like “yesterday” “last weekend” and so on .students have already mastered some tense of English such as: simple present tense、 the present continuous tense .so this new tense is not too difficult for students to understand . The contents of this unit reflect a principle, that is : from the easy to the hard and to solve the difficulties step by step .Students have leant some regular verbs and their past tense in part A . In part B, the text presents two irregular verbs based on part A .That is “went” and “read”. It not only consolidates the knowledge which already learnt but also introduces more information of past tense to students.
So based on the teaching contents and the new curriculum standards of English. I set the teaching aims as follows:
Knowledge aims: 1 students can listen、 speak、 read and write those phrases like: went to a park, went swimming, read a book .went fishing, went hiking
2 students can listen, read and say the sentences like: what did you do yesterday? I went hiking.
Abilities aims: 1enable students to express what they did with past tense 2 enable students to use the sentence: “what did you do yesterday?” to ask somebody 3 train their memory and inductive ability with the game in let’s play
Motional aims: Train the students` ability to arrange their life in their past time. Encourage them to have good cooperation with one another.
As for the important and difficult points of this lesson. I think that is how to master those irregular verbs of their past time. Because it’s not just add “ed” to the end of the words. Students should try hard to remember them. Because when they change into the form of past tense there are no certain rules. As a result, I should make my class more attractive, and talk over the difficulty together with students.
Second, please let me talk about the teaching and learning methods of the lesson. According to the new theories of the teaching, the mainly aim of English teaching is to cultivate students
comprehensive language literacy. Therefore in my design of the lesson, I try to use as many teaching methods as possible especial discussion and interaction. Nowadays, teaching has emphasized the change of students` study methods. More and more classes lean to cultivate students` abilities of self-directed learning, cooperative learning and inquiry learning. Based on this, in the teaching of let’s play I’ll give students more free time to practice by themselves or discuss it with their friends.
Third, as for the teaching tools, I’ll use the multi-media. A ppt based on the teaching contents, which presents a day of ZhangPeng`s life and let students use the new phrases they learnt to describe it. It can train student’s ability to speak in English and also attract their interests in English learning. And I also need some cards to present the new phrases in this unit.
Fourth, I want to talk about my plant of teaching procedures about the lesson. Step 1 warm up and revision .Enjoy a chant in page 26 to warm up and to make students familiar with irregular verbs` past tense, then, presents the cards of Part A, ask two students to play a game ,one student says the prototype of the phrase and another student says the past tense of the phrases Step2 Presentation and Practice
Present the prototype of the new phrases that is: go to a park, go
swimming, read a book, go fishing, go hiking, let students to discuss with each other and then try to find the past tense of those phrases, and then check the answers. In this step I try to cultivate students to have good cooperation with each other. And arose their interests in the lesson.
Next, teacher asks the question: do you know what our friends Amy、 John、 ZhangPeng and ChenJie did yesterday? Listen to the tape and study the new phrases. In this part, I teach the new phrases. When listen to the tape, it also can train their listening ability.
Practice in groups: listen to the tape; repeat and then act them out. Choice the best group and give the rewards. Step3 Consolidation and extension
Play the game in let’s play: 1 look at the table for a few seconds 2 cover it 3 ask and answer. In this part, the interaction can be acted between teacher and students; teacher can have a match with students to make class more active.
Play a video for students, and then let them to describe ZhangPeng`s one day. Through this step, I try to develop their abilities to talk with new knowledge they’ve learnt. Step3 enjoy a song in page 36《At the ZOO》 Relax students with the song
Step4 homework 1 need to do: copy the new phrases four times Listen to the tape for 15minutes after class
2 choice to do: guess what your friends or
teachers did yesterday? Then write it down. I think homework should be flexible. In one hand, students review the lesson they learnt, on the other hand homework should arouse they interests in study. As what is the new curriculum standards of English said students are the main body of the learning. Therefore, according to their interests and the contents of the lesson, I apart the homework into two parts. One is need to do the other is choice to do. Fifth black board design:

It`s easy for students to compare the prototype of the verbs with the past tense`s forms.
